Myopia Management

Eaton Optometric Group, Inc. provides treatment, consultation and referrals for these common vision correction surgeries and myopia management procedures.

Vision correction is a general term used to describe a variety of optometric techniques for correcting less-than-perfect vision. For your convenience, we have included a brief description of some of the most common vision correction procedures offered at Eaton Optometric Group, Inc.

Myopia Management or Myopia Control

Myopia management refers to treatments used to control the progression of myopia (nearsightedness). A study by the National Eye Institute (NEI) showed that the prevalence of myopia is growing rapidly in the U.S. Though the exact cause is unknown, many eye doctors feel it has something to do with eye fatigue and blue light exposure from digital device use and other extended near vision tasks, coupled with a genetic predisposition for myopia.

Our doctors are concerned because studies have correlated high myopia with increased risk for sight threatening conditions such as retinal detachment, glaucoma, cataracts, and myopic maculopathy. Below are some of the myopia management services that our doctors provide for concerned parents.

NaturalVue Multifocal Contact Lenses

Multifocal contacts are special lenses that have different powers in different zones of the lens to correct near and distance vision. But researchers and eye doctors are finding that modified multifocal soft contact lenses also are effective tools for myopia control. NaturalVue multifocal contact lenses are engineered to best control myopia progression. This is the safest and easiest option for long-term myopia management.

Orthokeratology (Ortho-K)

Orthokeratology is a procedure for correcting myopia (nearsightedness) and mild astigmatism by gently reshaping the cornea with special contact lenses, which the patient places in his or her eyes overnight. Kind of like retainers for your eyes.

When successful, patients will experience clear vision during the day without contact lenses or eyeglasses. However, the results are temporary, so the patient must continue to wear the lenses regularly at night to maintain optimum results.

LASIK

LASIK (Laser-Assisted in Situ Keratomileusis) is a surgical procedure that uses a laser beam to reshape the cornea. Patients who are nearsighted, farsighted or astigmatic may benefit from this type of procedure.

While millions of patients have seen successful results from LASIK, the procedure is not right for everyone. Your optometrist will need to thoroughly examine your eyes to determine which type of vision correction best fits your needs.

Eaton Optometric Group, Inc. has the experience and equipment necessary to provide treatment, consultation and referrals for the vision correction procedures and surgeries detailed above at our office in Tracy. Schedule an appointment with your eye care provider, and we will be in touch with you shortly.
